CFTT Donates Huge Produce Harvest to Food Banks

Updated: 2 days ago

Colorado Farm to Table (CFTT), a nonprofit that grows nutritious vegetables for those in need, has so far donated more than 42,000 pounds of produce to area food banks this year with the help of a dedicated crew of volunteers who have helped plant, hoe, and harvest. Fresh broccoli, cabbage, and zucchini have recently been distributed for free through distribution partners in Chaffee County and throughout Colorado. Those partners include the Food Bank of the Rockies, Care and Share of Colorado, Ark Valley Christian Mission, the Grainery, and Ark Valley Helping Hands, among others. CFTT works with 26 partners in total.

Ark Valley Helping Hands (AVHH), a program of Chaffee County Public Health, recently distributed CFTT produce to some of its members in the community. Aubrey Tamietti, AVHH Coordinator, noted: "The fresh produce donated by Colorado Farm to Table and distributed by Ark Valley Helping Hands volunteers to older adults in our community is more than just food; it's an expression of care that greatly enhances the older adults' quality of life. By providing access to healthy and locally grown, fresh fruits and vegetables, we ensure that our older adults feel valued and supported, fostering a sense of connection and well-being. The visit from a volunteer, along with the fresh produce, significantly boosts their sense of being cared for and connected to the community."

Since its inception in 1996, CFTT has raised and donated more than 2.7 million pounds of produce for our food-insecure neighbors in Colorado. Board President Allison Groom said the nonprofit is on track to reach 100,000 pounds of fresh produce this year and is looking for volunteers to help harvest.
