Salida Chamber of Commerce Facebook Post, March 2:
"In the heart of Colorado lies a beacon of hope for those facing food insecurity. Colorado Farm to Table, Inc. (CFTT), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has been named the Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit of the Quarter for its remarkable efforts in combating hunger throughout the state. Since its inception in 2005, CFTT has been dedicated to growing and donating nutritious vegetables to individuals and families in need. Operating from the Shine family farm off of CR 291, CFTT has become a vital part of the community, with hundreds of volunteers and local businesses rallying behind its mission.
Over the years, they have donated nearly 2.8 million pounds of fresh produce, equivalent to approximately 11 million servings, to food-insecure Coloradans. In 2023 alone, 68,282 pounds of vegetables were harvested by 57 local volunteers and distributed through 23 food banks and pantries across the state.
One of the most remarkable aspects of CFTT's operations is its cost-effectiveness. Through a unique volunteer-driven model, they manage to keep costs low, allowing them to allocate 100% of the produce grown for donation. Generous donations from organizations like the Salida Rotary and the Colorado Grand Car Rally have further supported their efforts, ensuring the continuity and expansion of their vital work. As the demand for food assistance continues to rise, organizations like CFTT play an indispensable role in alleviating hunger in our communities. With 1 in 10 Coloradan children experiencing food insecurity, their work is more critical than ever.
To support Colorado Farm to Table in their mission to provide fresh produce to those in need, individuals are encouraged to volunteer for morning work shifts on the farm this summer. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors facing hunger.
